Vector and tensor polarization lifetimes for a stored deuteron beam

Abstract

The time dependence of the vector and tensor polarization of a 270 MeV stored deuteron beam was measured. Oscillation frequency was varied during the study. The ratio of the polarization lifetimes was found out to be 1.9±0.2. The transition rate between the neighboring states (+1 and 0 or -1 and 0) was found to be four times higher than between the states with magnetic substates (m I) = +1 and -1.
