Abstract

A series of magnetic equilibrium following the L-H transition in the DIII-D tokamak, were analyzed. This analysis was performed for a time slice (t=2.1s) just before the end of the edge localized mode-free phase of the discharge. The analysis confirmed the activation of a large non-inductive current source near the plasma edge coincident with the increase in the pressure gradient in this region. The results indicate that the magnitude and radial shape of the noninductive current is quantitatively consistent with neoclassical predictions for the bootstrap current.
