Abstract

The use of di-ureasil xerogels for synthesis of neutron sensors by mixing of lithium salicylate solution into hybrid silica-polymer precursor was discussed. It was found that the di-ureasil xerogels doped with lithium-6 salicylate are effective sintillators for neutrons. It was suggested that di-ureasil component plays dual roles, which includes solubilization of lithium ions through polyethylene oxide bridges and scintillation centers. It was also suggested that the lithium-6 salicylate di-ureasil xerogels have potential for use in fabrication of large area neutron detectors.
