Abstract

The structure of a new methane hydrate (MH) was investigated using neutron and X-ray powder diffraction data. The structure was believed to be stabilized by repulsive interaction between the guest and host molecules and H-bonded host networks. It was observed that the structure of MH-III can be viewed as a filled ice, and thus the methane-water system links the two classes of clathrate hydrates for the first time.
