Abstract

Stretching the imagination: Based on simulations it is proposed that atommanipulation techniques, such as atomic force microscopy (AFM), could be used t, draw and manipulate monoatomic nano wires using thiolates anchored to gold clusters on surfaces (see picture, gold Au, yellow S). At the same time, the forceversus-extension curve is diagnostic for the isomerizations of the underlying covalently bound species.
