Abstract

What are the keys for battery? • Different thicknesses for maximum energy density • Thick cathode - transport limited • Good interfaces - conductive and stable • Mechanical stability toward breathing of cathode and plating of lithium • Cost effective and scalable manufacturing • Critical flaws may cause failure Implications for processing • Requires multiple processing methods? • Create hybrid adding liquid or gel electrolyte • Clean, 100% contact, other factors TBD • Mechanics of materials, defect formation and diffusion • Material by material, subassemblies, full battery? • Low impurity, smooth surfaces.
