Abstract
The thermal conductivity, specific heat, latent heat of fusion, linear and volumetric expansion and density of both reagent and commercial grades of four potential thermal energy storage salts, LiNO//3, LiOH, 63 LiOH/37LiCL, and Na//2B//4O//7, have been evaluated over a temperature range of at least plus or minus 100 K of their respective melting points. The thermal conductivity was determined by comparative techniques, specific heat by adiabatic and drop calorimetry, and expansion and density by dilatometry and buoyancy. Results are presented and discussed in relation both to the very limited data available for each of these materials, and to their potential use as energy storage salts.
