The unscientific history of cold fusion

Research output: Contribution to journalConference articlepeer-review

Abstract

The announcement in March 1989 that sustained nuclear fusion reactions had been achieved in a table-top apparatus generated much publicity. The claims proved to be unfounded. How the evidence for these claims was presented provides a case study on unscientific methods and the breaching of scientific conventions. It will be shown how respect for these conventions is important to avoid similar fiascos.
