Abstract

The eigenmode approach which was applied to stability of ballooning modes in internal transport barriers (ITB) was described. The equilibrium profiles had negligible effect on mode structure at low magnetic shear in absence of flow shear. The structure and stability of ballooning modes were different when effect of weak equilibrium variations were included and flow shear stabilized the ballooning modes. The structure of finite ballooning mode in flow shear was significantly influenced by radially varying equilibrium.
