Abstract

only in 1977, the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) revised its primary recommendations with the issuance of Publication No. 26. The nature of the primary recommendations themselves, new information on the behavior of radionuclides in the body, and the advances in methods for estimation of dose all had an influence on the dosimetric formulations established by ICRP Committee 2. The existing computational framework at Oak Ridge National Laboratory was modified to reflect the consideration of Committee 2, and the resultant system of codes was used by Committee 2 to translate the Commission’s primary recommendations into secondary limits reported in Publication No. 30. This presentation briefly addresses the dosimetric concepts and models of ICRP and discusses the computational approach to the biokinetics and kinetics of radioactive decay chains. The extension of these formulations to individuals and age groups other than the adult will be illustrated, using recently developed physiology-based models for the kinetics of Ce and Pu.
