Abstract

A cubic (non-superconducting) phase of YBCO and its use as a barrier in SNS junctions grown by laser ablation has been reported by Agostinelli et al [1,2]. We have grown the cubic phase by high pressure dc sputtering and characterised it electrically and by X-ray and electron diffraction. We have found this phase to be unstable at c-axis growth conditions (for high pressure dc sputtering) and therefore unsuitable for use in junctions grown this way.
