Abstract

We demonstrate that within Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer superconductivity theory the nuclear spin lattice relaxation rate T1 -1 should show a small peak just below Tc for any unconventional superconductor. This contradicts the commonly held belief that such a peak is a signature of conventional, s -wave pairing, and thus calls into question one of the experimental cornerstones of conventional superconductivity. We suggest appropriate materials in which to measure this peak.
