Abstract
This chapter gives an overview of different signal-responsive electrochemical interfaces, particularly emphasizing the importance of scaling up the complexity of the signal processing systems by the application of biomolecular logic systems integrated with signal-responsive interfaces and glimpses of the diverse challenges and opportunities in the near future. The chapter describes the light-switchable modified electrodes based on photoisomerizable materials and magnetoswitchable electrochemical reactions controlled by magnetic species associated with electrode interfaces. It discusses the modified electrodes switchable by applied potentials resulting in electrochemical transformations at functional interfaces and chemically/biochemically switchable electrodes. The chapter summarizes the coupling of switchable electrodes with biomolecular computing systems. It provides an overview of various biological fuel cell (BFC) switchable/tunable power output.
