Abstract
The acidity of modified β-zeolites was studied by FTIR spectroscopy. Five types of hydroxyl groups present in the hydrothermally treated β-zeolites and its modifed β-zeolites by dealumination with Na2H2EDTA and HCl, absorbing at 3746, 3740, 3730, 3605 and 3551cm-1 were identified and assigned to Si-OH groups on amorphous silica-alumina debris, silanol groups on extraframework silicon-rich debris, terminal/internal framework Si-OH, framework and hydrogenbonded hydroxyl groups, respectively. The effect of adsorption of benzene and pyridine on these hydroxyl groups has been characterized. The results reveal that the following decreasing order for the acidic strength of the framework hydroxyl groups on the β-zeolites at different reatment conditons is derived: dealumination with HCl > hydrothermall treatment > dealumination with Na2H2EDTA.
