Abstract
Spectroscopic methods are developed to investigate the chemical and physical properties of amine borane complexes. These materials are rich in hydrogen and are attractive candidates for hydrogen storage materials. Recent experimental results aimed at elucidation of the mechanism of hydrogen formation arising from ammonia borane (AB) confined within a mesoporous silica scaffold are presented. The approach, using solid state NMR, neutron scattering, and Raman spectroscopy is designed to gain a understanding of the nano-scale interfacial interactions that enhance the kinetics and thermodynamics of this hydrogen storage material.
