Abstract

A special issue of 'Future Generation Computer Systems', dedicated to modern applications of distributed and grid computing, is presented. Grid computing is an emerging computing model that provides the ability to perform higher throughput computing by taking advantage of many networked computers to model a virtual computer architecture. The papers selected for the special issue include Grid resource brokering algorithms enabling advance reservations and resource selection based on performance predictions and Simulation-based optimization of multiple-task GRID applications. The selected papers in the special issue also include Monte Carlo methods for matrix computations on the grid dealing with a grid service implementation of Monte Carlo solvers for large and very large Linear Algebra Problems.
