Abstract

The fast relaxational processes and the boson peak in the strong glass former B2O3 were investigated using coherent inelastic neutron scattering. The wave vector dependence of the dynamic structure factor was different for energies below and above the Boson peak, indicating a qualitative difference in the character of the respective modes. The low frequency behavior of the additional modes as well as the high frequency behavior of the total density of states were consistent with the predictions of the soft potential model.
