Abstract
A steady state mathematical model has been developed for a solar chimney which is used to enhance the effect of thermally induced ventilation in buildings. The model takes into consideration different sizes of the openings of a solar chimney with varying values of the discharge coefficients. Numerical calculations performed for different values of ambient temperature and solar radiation show that a solar collector area of 2.25 (m2) is able to induce an air flow between 140 (m3/hr) to 330 (m3/hr) for solar radiation of 200 (W/m2) and 1000 (W/m2) respectively.
