Abstract

Small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) data were collected for 0.035-1.0 M Zr(IV) in aqueous solution where the species present were hydroxyl-bridged tetramers. The scattering data were fitted to a cylindrical model with a radius of 4.8 Å and an aspect ratio of 2.3. Similar fits of the data to spherical and elliptical models were also tested. These SAXS data have provided corroborative evidence for the existence of tetrameric species in aqueous solution.
