Abstract

The lifetimes of the states up to spin 16h{stroke} in 174W have been measured with the recoil distance technique. Significant variations of the transition quadrupole moments are observed in the yrast and lowest-energy negative parity bands. In the case of the yrast states, these can be attributed to shape changes that are not related to the i 13 2 neutron band crossing, occurring at spin 18h{stroke}.
