Jointly funded by the CAPES, CNPq and CLAF, a two week school on the “Fundamentals of Neutron Scattering” was held at the International Institute of Physics (IIP) within the University Federal of Rio Grande de Norte. Located in the beautiful coastal city of Natal, Brazil the School lasted from September 2–14, 2013 with invited speakers coming from the United States, Europe, Australia, Argentina and Brazil. The courses covered the basics in neutron diffraction, reflectometry, small angle scattering and inelastic spectroscopy. Over forty students attended the school, with Brazilian students rep resenting the majority of the class, and a strong contingent of fifteen people coming from Argentina. The students came from a very diverse range of disciplines including physics, chemistry, engineering and nanotechnology with very little experience on large facilities research.
