Abstract
The scattering of molecular beams of O 2 from Al(111) surface was investigated. The objective of the study was to interpret the observed scattering data in terms of scattering theory and to study the dependence of the angular distributions on incidence angle and temperature. The physical mechanism causing the shapes and behaviors of the angular distributions was found to be dominated by energy exchange with photon distribution of the surface. It was also found that on average energy was lost when the O 2 collided with the surface.
