Salt Impurity Effects on Structural Material Compatibility

Research output: Contribution to journalConference articlepeer-review

Abstract

When commercial chloride salt was dried or purified and handled in a glove box and sealed capsule, only modest attack of Ni-based alloys 230 and 600 was observed. Only when high levels of undried salt were used could depths of attack >100µm be achieved in these experiments at 800°C. This suggests that salt applications are more viable than suggested by previous studies.
