Report on the "Workshop on Scientific Benefits and Applications of Resonant Spin Echo"

Abstract

An international group of scientists gathered for the “Workshop on Scientific Benefits and Applications of Resonant Spin Echo” at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) on February 13-15, 2024. The workshop community shared strong enthusiasm and support for developing a resonance-based instrument at ORNL to fit the need for high resolution neutron spectroscopy at both long and short lengthscales. Here we summarize the recurring themes from the 18 talks and discussions. For this workshop, “resonance-based instrument” refers to an instrument that uses a RF (radio-frequency) flipper for Larmor labelling of neutrons for spin echo, in contrast to conventional Mezeitype spin echo.
