Abstract
The remote handling system for the Spallation Neutron Source Target System, an accelerator-based neutron scattering facility being constructed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has been under development for the past three years. The remote handling system consists of a 7-1/2 ton bridge crane, a separate bridge-mounted servomanipulator system, through-the-wall manipulators, shield windows, remotely operated cameras and lights, and miscellaneous tools and lifting fixtures. The basis for development has been to provide full target cell coverage and use commercially available equipment wherever possible with minimal modifications.
