Abstract

We present a neutron scattering study of Eu0.54Sr0.46S in magnetic fields H60 mT. The Bragg intensity is history dependent in both the ferromagnetic (FM) and spin-glass (SG) regimes. The FM and SG regimes are distinct in that the spin fluctuations are history dependent only in the SG regime. The latter effect is very dramatic: cooling to 0.5 K in a 41-mT field and then setting H=0 results in a magnetic correlation length of less than 65, well below the zero-field-cooled value of 140.
