title = "Reactivity measurements in subcritical systems",
abstract = "A precise description of Multiplying Subcritical Systems is highly needed in practical cases and also in cutting-edge researches. Unfortunately, its theoretical description remains with plenty open questions. In past years, several theoretical models have been proposed to characterize the kinetics of such systems with special regard to the reactivity, as the one developed by Gandini and Salvatores among others. From the point of view of the Gandini and Salvatores' point kinetics model and based on the experimental results provided by Lee and dos Santos, it was possible to develop an innovative approach to reactivity measurements in subcritical systems. A comparison among the results provided by the new method and those obtained through classical point kinetics and MCNP-5 calculations is presented. The methodology employed is being tested in rod-drop experiments at the IPEN/MB-01 reactor with promising results, indicating that the new approach estimates the subcritical reactivity more efficiently. This work has a theoretical and practical relevance since it discusses a fundamental point of the nuclear reactor physics, contributing to the study and development of future subcritical reactivity meters.",
