Abstract

In this paper, the proximity effect of the rectangular wire windings is discussed. The equation for the ac-to-dc winding resistance ratio of the rectangular wire inductor winding valid at low and medium frequencies is derived and an equation for the optimum thickness of rectangular wire is derived. The results of the derivations are compared with the Dowell's equation for the ac-to-dc resistance.
