Abstract

An injection system of 50 mA @50 keV D+ ion beam is needed for thermal neutron radiography based on 2 MeV RFQ at PKU. Its duty factor is 10%. The RMS emmitance is 0.20 Timm-mrad with α= 1.93 and β=5.16 cm/rad. To achieve these specifications, we developed an ion source test bench and a LEBT test bench based on a permanent magnet 2.45 GHz microwave-driven ion source (ECR). When the microwave power is less than 450 W, the total extracted H+ current is larger than 80 mA, and the proton fraction is better than 90%. The RMS emmitance is about 0.2-0.3 7π·mm·mrad. With a semi-closed solenoid, the transport efficiency of LEBT is better than 80%. In addition, studies were conducted on influence of liner material and size of the inner diameter.
