Abstract

Modeling and simulation of extrusion deposition additive manufacturing (EDAM) has advanced significantly in recent years. In this review, we will discuss the origins of EDAM simulation capability in GENOA Software and subsequent developments across multiple platforms. Technical challenges behind the first commercial implementation of EDAM simulation addressed along with present approaches and unresolved issues for EDAM. This review is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Frank Abdi, who implemented pioneering solutions in this area as recognized by 2015 R&D 100 award.
