Abstract

The strategy for the development and commercialization of transuranic (TRU) fuels for gas-cooled reactors is addressed. The strategy involves fuel design, fuel and process development, licensing, and commercial fabrication. The requirement is to design and produce coated particles with a range of TRU isotopes and coatings as differing geometries. The different isotopic compositions can have a range of specific power while operating at relatively high temperature, and at the same time a low particle failure rate may also be maintained.
