Abstract

In the recent past, there has been an exponential growth in the research and developmental activities related to adhesives for application in the different industries. Ranging from aerospace applications to healthcare domain, contribution of adhesives has been peerless. Ideally speaking, adhesives can be sub-classified into different segments. One of the niche categories of adhesives are known as pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA). Multifaceted applications are reported in the literature for such PSAs. Owing to the growth of golden aged people across the globe, the health care segment is booming. This warrants the development of special kind of adhesive and PSAs for addressing such needs. In this article, we provide an overview about the basics of adhesives, physics controlling the adhesive properties and their mechanistic pathways. Further, we focus our discussion on the PSAs in terms of rheology, their chemical structure and types. Additionally, a separate section has been dedicated on the application purview of such medical grade PSAs.
