Photoelectrochemical studies on Mo-cluster compounds, GaMo4S8 and ZnMo2Re2S8

Abstract

PEC behavior of the tetrahedral metal-cluster chalcogenides, GaMo4S8 and ZnMo2Re2S8 in the polycrystalline form have been examined. The photoresponse behavior is attributed to the Mo d-d transition with n-type behavior. These compounds are found to give photoresponse in aq. acidic and alkaline solutions and also in I2 I- and Fe(CN)6 4- 3- redox electrolytes. Detailed photoresponse behavior and quantum efficiency measurements have been made. But the PEC properties of GaMo4S8 and ZnMo2Re2S8 are not found to be very encouraging.
