Abstract
A period-three cycle together with its higher mode and some new types of solutions are experimentally observed in the light output of a laser diode active interferometer. Numerical analysis of the delayed-differential equation is made which gives qualitatively the same results as the experiment. The lack of certain higher harmonic orders in the spectra of the fundamental period-three cycle is observed and explained by the strong competition of multiple unstable modes under a large delay time.
