Abstract

Despite many advances in numerical methods, the computing time required to solve free-surface flow problems is still very long. In order to reduce the computational time, we present in this paper a parallel computing approach for solving free-surface problems by the use of SOLA-VOF like methods. Details of the parallel implementation, which is based on a domain of decomposition approach, are pointed out. The pressure Poisson equation is solved by the use of preconditioned Conjugate Gradient Method. Among four preconditioners with different degree of parallelization, an optimal preconditioner is sought. The parallel implementation is tested for a complex case study of a free-surface flow over a dike.
