Abstract
We report the observation of periodic [Formula presented] stripe domains below the ferroelectric transition in thin films. Epitaxial [Formula presented] films of thickness [Formula presented] to 42 nm on [Formula presented] substrates were studied using x-ray scattering. Upon cooling below [Formula presented], satellites appeared around Bragg peaks indicating the presence of [Formula presented] stripe domains of period [Formula presented] to 24 nm. The dependence of [Formula presented] on [Formula presented] agrees well with theory including epitaxial strain effects, while the suppression of [Formula presented] for thinner films is significantly larger than that expected solely from stripe domains.
