Abstract
Inelastic neutron scattering measurements have been performed on a single crystal of BaNiO2. A paramagnetic scattering originating from dilute moments was observed, suggesting that BaNiO2 is non-magnetic. The possible origin of the non-magnetic ground state is discussed.
