Abstract

In this paper, we present experimental evidence that carboxylic-acid-terminated deuterated-polystyrene (DPS-COOH) in cyclohexane (CH), a poor solvent, forms a weakly stretched brush with a parabolic concentration profile. In contrast, carboxylic-acid-terminated polystyrene (PS-COOH) in deuterated cyclohexane (DCH) forms a layer about 50% thinner with a parabolic profile considerably rounded near the free chain ends.
