Abstract

Hybrid modulation is a simple technique to generate the same switching pattern than space vector modulation. This technique uses a high modulation frequency, increasing the switching losses in the inverter. This paper presents a modification and simplification of the hybrid modulation in order to reduce the number of commutations per cycle and therefore the switching losses. It consists in algebraic manipulation of the zero-sequence component of the hybrid modulation. Simulation and experimental results shows the advantages of the proposed simplification.
