Abstract

Stirling cycle is the most similar to the Carnot cycle, which theoretically is the most efficient thermodynamic cycle. For that reason, Stirling engine is a powerful alternative in cogeneration, i.e., to produce electricity from different heat sources. The Stirling cycle is complicated to model, due to it has many equations. This paper shows the model of a Stirling engine developed in the free and open source SCILAB. The objective of this paper is to be a didactic tutorial to develop the model of the Stirling engine to be used as primary machine for the simulation of electrical generators used in cogeneration. The modeling using free software allows many students and researches to use and edit the model. The developed model gives information about pressure, volume, generated power and efficiency. Simulation results shows that the operative model done in SCILAB can be used in the analysis of Stirling engine.
