Abstract

Multiport converters (MPC) can be used to integrate multiple DC-DC converters in an on-board charger (OBC) resulting in an integrated on-board charger (IOBC). This paper presents the control philosophy of an MPC based IOBC (combining the OBC DC-DC and the motor drive DC-DC converter) suitable for EV power train application. The control architecture for the topology in all the modes of operation is presented. Apart from utilizing current mode control to charge the HV propulsion battery, phase shift control is employed to manage the power flow between the primary and secondary, and properly match the transformer primary and secondary voltages, which decreases the system losses. All the theoretical findings and analyses are verified through results.
