Abstract
The present study dealt with microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties of SiC/SiC composites, which were studied by means of electron microscopies (SEM, TEM, EDS), bending tests and single-fiber push-out tests. SiC/SiC composites were fabricated by the reaction sintering process. Braided Hi-Nicalon SiC fiber with double coating layers of BN and SiC was introduced in this system. The results showed that the matrix portion of SiC/SiC composites comprised two sorts of phases depending on composition proportions of the silicon and the carbon, accompanied by the presence of isolated silicon and unreacted carbon. It was also found that SiC/SiC composites possessed sufficient bending strength and fracture energy.
