Abstract

Electromagnetic wave interference makes false device operation and gives bad influence on human body, so absorbing it at the case of electronic devices have been important issue recently. For absorbing electromagnetic wave, conducting metallic multilayer was coated on the polycarbonate substrate. Multilayer metallic coatings consist of the copper or silver for electric conductivity and one of the three kinds of stainless steel(SUS 316, SUS 310S and duplex SUS) for corrosion resistance were deposited by magnetron sputtering method. Microstructure of sputtered coating has an influence on the sheet resistance and corrosion resistance of multilayer coatings, by depositing at lower deposition pressure they showed lower sheet resistance and better corrosion resistance, which can ascribe to better crystallinity and stress relaxation ability with better toughness of grains. Multilayer coating with Cu layer showed higher sheet resistance and poor corrosion resistance than that with Ag layer. When the dual phase stainless steel(ferrite-austenite intermediate phase) or 310 stainless steel(with higher Al contents) which are known as more resistive against stress corrosion cracking than 316 stainless steel in bulk state were used, corrosion resistance of the multilayer coating were improved. Multilayer coating deposited at lower pressure of 6×10 -4torr with dual phase stainless steel/Ni/Cu/Ni/PC configuration showed no distinct corrosion pits after 72hours salt spray test, which imply the possibility of Cu substitute for Ag.
