    Abstract

The mechanical and thermal properties of gelcast, Si3N 4 reinforced 50% BaO.Al2O3.2SiO2 (BAS) - 50% SrO.Al2O3.2SiO2 (SAS) and sialon compositions were evaluated from room temperature up to 1300°C. Gelcasting of these compositions was achieved using a non-aqueous monomer system. The mechanical and thermal properties including 4-pt. flexure, bi-axial flexure, Coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and thermal conductivity from room temperature to 1300°C for gel-cast celsian and sialon ceramic formulations were analyzed and are presented here.
