Abstract

A test program was designed and executed to study the accuracy and precision of a bolt torquing system which tightens bolts to their torque-tension yield point. The test program compared bolt preload values to both the axial yield point and to the rotation torque applied to the bolt head. The test program also included measuring the permanent elongation of the bolt to verify the performance. Results show that portions of this test program can be used to verify the accuracy and precision of the bolt torquing system in the manufacturing environment.
