Abstract

Safe use of temporary formwork systems must be provided to ensure safety of structures during service. Aside from inadequate formwork strength, other causes of failure include insufficient concrete strength, inadequate lateral bracing, and premature formwork removal. A better understanding of how and when construction loads occur, and what magnitudes can be expected, can lead to improved design procedures and safety.
