Abstract

Developments in catalyst pore structure engineering aim for higher yields of transportation fuels from FCC operation. A discussion on maximizing fuels from the FCC unit covers the complexity of the FCC process; role of catalysts; mechanistic similarity; multiphase phenomena FCC; isothermal vs. adiabatic operation; producing middle distillates in the FCC unit (FCCU); hydrotreated VGO operation with high middle distillate and propylene yields; maximizing catalytic conversion of bottoms to middle distillates, e.g., light cycle oil and gasoline; highly accessible Albemarle catalyst with high matrix activity; typical main operating conditions and yields from an FCCU maximizing LCO yield; maximizing gasoline and minimizing coke; feed properties; economic case study; and the use of Go-Ultra to increase gasoline yield by as much as 3%, at the expense of coke and LPG.
