Abstract

A computer program for three-dimensional transient analyses of welding processes has been modified for use on massively parallel computers. The computational model is based on a discrete element method that takes into account geometric variations of an object, heat transfer, fluid flow, deformable free surface, solid/liquid interface, buoyancy, electro-magnetic and surface forces acting on a weld. The microstructure evolution during welding is simulated using the Monte Carlo technique based on the results obtained from the macroscopic discrete element analysis.
