Abstract
An orientation texture was induced by the application of a magnetic field during the preparation of strontium hexaferrite from SrCO3 and Fe2O3 by a KCl flux synthesis method. The degree of this texture was increased when the magnetic field was applied throughout the firing process. The magnetically induced texture is attributed to the preferential growth of hexaferrite nuclei which are oriented with their c-axes parallel to the applied magnetic field. When measurements were made with the applied field normal to the c-axis, a lower normalized remanent magnetization and a larger coercive force was observed in samples with a high degree of c-axis orientation.
