Abstract

Inhibition of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activity by synthesized drugs can low blood pressure for cardiovascular disease treatment. The protein hydrolysates and peptides used as ACE inhibitoiy could be isolated from non-edible defatted Camelina and Canola meals for high-value health promoting products by enzyme hydrolysis. Alcalase was used to hydrolyze Camelina and Canola meals under optimal temperatures and pH values. After centrifugal separation, peptides were detected in the hydrolysates using HPLC and UV spectrometer. The peptides sequences and molecular weight were further determined by Nano LC-MS. The results indicate that it is feasible to generate protein peptides from Canola and Camelina meals using hydrolysis with Alcalase.
